Yechury slams PM for supporting Adani group

Agartala, Feb 9 (UNI): CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extravagantly supporting the corporate like Adani group at cost of taxpayers’ money.

Yechury, who was addressing an election rally in Udaipur in Gomati district of Tripura, alleged that BJP was seeking vote across the country in the name of Modi claiming that under his leadership 80 crore poor Indian have been getting five kilo rice in the public distribution system but the fact remains, “whatever little amount of money the family saved by getting five kilo rice, three times of the amount they are paying for buying other essential items due to high inflation and price rise.”

Earlier, Tripura government had provided 15 kg rice at Rs 2 and the price of the essential items was at an affordable level. But the BJP-led government after coming to power withdrew the subsidised supply of rice and also deregulated the market of other essentials. During Covid they have started free rice distribution as if people will live with rice only, Yechury said.

“Tripura used to be the highest job generating state in the country under MGNREGA average 82 to 90 days in a year. Now it is reduced to less than 10 days in a year and the government has slowly reduced the budget of such rural welfare schemes. Instead, extending support to Adani group,” he alleged, adding that Adai groups have become the owner of eight airports of the country and a number of ports without investing a single farthing at the behest of Modiji.

He further alleged in the name of ‘double engine’ government BJP is running a ‘double loot’ government. The credible investigation agencies like CBI and ED have become the instrument of oppression. Without winning the elections in Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur – BJP formed the government using money power, which has become a matter of shame for the democracy in the country.

Justifying seat-sharing of Left parties with Congress in Tripura election, Yechury said to prevent the anti-people, corrupt and a terror government of BJP, CPI(M) made a clarion call to the secular, democratic parties to join hands and Congress being a secular party responded to it. And, both are fighting together to unseat BJP from Tripura.

“The 25 years rule of left front in Tripura was a well governed state in the country with numerous welfare schemes for the poor. The state has emerged as one of the best states with a vibrant economy and development. But in five years rule of BJP in the name of religion, caste and creed made a disaster for Tripura. Now, time has come to rescue the state from the hands of a corrupt government,” Yechury stated.
