Centre reluctant to grant ILP as state govt is weak: Pala

Shillong ,Jan 8: Congress president Vincent Pala cited the weakness of NPP-led government as the reason for the Centre not granting Inner Line Permit (ILP) or an ILP-like mechanism.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Pala said, “This is a weak government, this is a self-interest government, they don’t think for the public, so they are totally at the control of the BJP. The BJP will only tempt them with promises, but it will never give them anything.”

Being skeptical about the BJP’s intentions, he said, “The interest of the BJP in a state like Meghalaya is very important. They will say they will give this, thar, but they will never give it. So, it is pointless to discuss what type of a Bill it is when you don’t know the text of the Bill and you don’t know what… they are only bluffing the people.”

Pala accused the MDA government of diverting the people’s attention, saying, “During Christmas and New Year, this is only to divert the attention of the people. The BJP will never give them anything. Last time, the BJP told them we will open coal mining, but they never opened it. They said we will amend the Sixth Schedule; they never amended it… How can you trust the present government? Whatever they say has no value, and they simply say whatever the BJP tells them to say.”

“The people have lost their trust in this government. They have announced so many missions, but nothing happened. You cannot trust this government”, Pala said.
