Shillong,Jan16: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has sought action against ‘Nolo’ app for depicting Khasi woman in.a derogatory manner.
Condemning the circulation of derogatory and insensitive content targeting women from the Khasi community through Nolo, the HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said, “Such content is not only misogynistic and demeaning but also constitutes a direct attack on the dignity, identity, and cultural values of the Khasi people.”
In a statement issued on Friday, the HYC demanded immediate action against those responsible for creating, promoting, and circulating the content.
“We urge the concerned law-enforcement agencies and cyber authorities to take cognisance of the matter without delay, identify those involved, and initiate strict legal action under relevant laws,” Synrem said.
The council has apprised the SP, East Khasi Hills District and the DIG, Eastern Range about the issue and requested immediate action.
“We expect the authorities to act decisively and ensure accountability at the earliest,” Synrem said.
The HYC said freedom of expression cannot be used to justify harassment, humiliation, or objectification of women, particularly of indigenous communities. “Targeting Khasi women in this manner reflects a dangerous mindset that cannot and will not be tolerated,” the HYC added.
