Govt still examining MeECL pension issue

Shillong, June 8: Power Minister James Sangma said the state government is sympathetic towards the plight of the MeECL pensioners.

“We are examining the matter after the electricity regulatory commission has disallowed pension as it is related to tariff”, Sangma told reporters on Tuesday.

The retired MeECL staff are yet to receive the pension for the last two months.

Earlier, after meeting Power Minister James Sangma, the  Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) said If they don’t get their pension by June 15, 70-90 year-old pensioners may come out to the street.

“CCORMAU will stand by them”, said its vice president Arju Dkhar.
