HC asks Julius Dorphang to appear before Nongpoh court

Shillong, June 24: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked former MLA, Julius Dorphang, who is accused of a raping a minor girl, to appear before the trial court in Nongpoh on June 28.

The single bench ordered this on Thursday after the trial court in Nongpoh cancelled Dorphang’s bail and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him for not appearing in the court frequently.

The petitioner had appealed to the high court to set aside the order of the trial court.

After the counsel for the petitioner said that the absence of the accused in the court was not intentional, the high court set aside the order of the trial court and ordered the accused to appear before the court to be heard on June 28.

Earlier, the counsel of Dorphang submitted that the intention of the accused/petitioner is to cooperate with the process and to appear before the trail court as and when required and in this regard, the counsel gave an unconditional undertaking to appear before the court as and when the matter is fixed for hearing.
