Shillong, July 13: The PHE minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar opened the Upper Shillong Water Supply Scheme (USWSS) at Water Treatment Plant, Maweitnai, on Tuesday.

“Of course the completion of the scheme has been delayed but better late than never,” he told reporters, while adding that the scheme would benefit over 47 villages.
According to him, the MDA government is not a government which lays only foundation stones.
“Our government is committed to complete all pending projects for the benefit of the people of the state,” he said.
Tongkhar said to provide water supply to each household in the state, the state government will sanction additional Rs Rs 6 crore for the completion of the USWSS.
Though the scheme was first sanctioned for Rs 33 crore, the total cost is Rs 39.95 crore, he said.
