106 posts to be filled up for state university ; Shillong campus at College of Engineering at Mawlai
Shillong, May 30:The state government will fill up 106 posts for the Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
The Shillong campus will function from the government college of engineering at Mawlai.
While 100 posts will be in Garo Hills, 6 will be for Shillong campus and the government will have to spend over Rs 45 crore yearly.
This was conveyed by the education officials when Education Commissioner & Secretary Syed Md A Razi on Thursday addressed a press conference on CUET and state university.
Razi said the state government has already filed an application to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for recognition to the Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
“As directed by the Chief Minister to the education department to expedite and make the Captain Williamson Sangma State University fully functional, we had already made an application to the UGC for the 2 (f) notification, to put the university in the list of universities recognized by UGC and which allows them to issue degrees,” Razi said.
“I am happy to inform that application has already been made and the CM is personally following it up with appropriate authority, UGC and union education minister and we are hopeful that we will receive the 2 (f) notification very soon,” he said.
“Once we receive the 2 (f) notification, we will start with the affiliation process of colleges, which are now affiliated with NEHU, they can shift their affiliation to the state university. And parallelly we are taking other steps to make the university fully functional in terms of appointment of vice chancellor, in terms of faculties that is required,” Razi said.
When asked, the commissioner & secretary said as of now, the government and government aided colleges will have to affiliate with the State University once it becomes functional. However, private colleges will have to exercise their choice in this matter as “we cannot force private colleges to seek affiliation but it would be appropriate if the students are in the same system from Meghalaya.”
Razi said that chief minister, during a meeting held on the issue, had decided to adopt a two-pronged strategy which is “first we will seek exemption from CUET for this year and second because it is going to be a recurring issue every time a new batch comes up for admission will be faced with similar issues so he directed the education department to expedite, to make the Captain Williamson Sangma State University fully functional.”
He added that based on the CM’s request, the UGC has approved the proposal to exempt colleges in Meghalaya from CUET.
“As of today, the admissions in the colleges affiliated to NEHU in Meghalaya will happen as they were happening before the current academic year,” he said.
