Edmund Sangma joins BJP

Shillong, March 2: Former NCP MLA Edmund Sangma, who joined BJP on Wednesday, said with the changed political situation in Garo Hills, he decided to be part of the saffron party.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said with the position of the Congress on the decline after Mukul Sangma left the party, the political scenario has changed in favour of BJP.

He also pointed out that while the sitting MLA from Raksamgre, Benedic Marak was dropped by the NPP from the CEM post in GHADC, ex- Congress MLA Limison Sangma was inducted into NPP.

Both are planning to contest from Raksamgre where Sangma too is prepaparimg the ground work.

Sangma had successfully contested the Assembly polls in 2003 from undivided Dadenggre on NCP ticket.

He lost in 2008 after contesting from the same party.

After delimitation, he contested from Raksamgre in 2013 and 2018 as an Independent but could not win the seat which was earlier represented by Limison.
