Govt pursuing Agriculture University: Minister
Shillong, March 16: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the government is still pursuing the need to set up a Central Agriculture University at Kyrdem Kulai, Ri Bhoi
Raising a question, Adelbert Nongrum (KHNAM) wanted to know the plan of the government to set up the University as it appears that the lady who donated the land was cheated since the purpose was not served.
Currently, only an Agriculture college is functioning and not the University.
However, in reply, the minister said nobody was cheated as the demand is alive.
“The goverment is concerned about the matter, we are supposed to set up Agriculture University in the 200 acre land . We have been taking up the matter since 2019. I had also taken a KSU delegation to Delhi and met the union minister in Guwahati”, he said.
HM Shangpliang (AITC) pointed out that in the Agricultural University , locals are not employed.
To this, the minister said the government is aware of the matter.
