16 bodies recovered from East Jaintia Hills coal mine; one injured

Shillong, Feb 5: Rescuers took out 16 bodies of coal mine workers from the Thangsko coal mine, East Jaintia Hills.

The incident was due to dynamite blasts in the mine.

An injured mine worker was shifted to Shillong for treatment.

When contacted, DGP Idashisha Nongrang said,” The SP is issuing a brief shortly. So far 16 bodies recovered. 1 injured sent to Shillong for treatment”.

Earlier on January 1, there were reports of two deaths at the same Thangsko coal mine.

On January 14, a coal mine worker identified as Mosaid Ali from Hojai, Assam, died at theĀ  Umthe coal mine under Umpleng in Sutnga in the district.
