16 held in Phulbari violence, Mominin blames NPP
Shillong, Feb 9: Police on Wednesday arrested 16 persons in connection with the pre-poll violence in Phulbari even as the AITC candidate and former legislator from Phulbari Esmatur SG Mominin blamed the NPP cadres led by the Shyamnagar MDC for the barbaric act.
“I condemn the brutal attack orchestrated by the NPP workers. I learned that the Shyamnagar MDC provoked this incident and is the proprietor of the crime. I request the ECI to conduct a proper inquiry to reveal the truth and unearth what happened. This is a very shocking and serious matter. I hope the authorities will take appropriate action and ensure fair and free elections,” Mominin said in a statement.
He said the NPP is irked by the overwhelming support and unwavering confidence shown by the people towards Meghalaya TMC.
The TMC leader said, “A huge procession of NPP workers abruptly started pelting stones, and bricks targeting the house where I was having a party meeting. Five of the party workers were injured, while one of them — Nozrul Hoque — was taken to Goalpara as referred by the Phulbari Hospital since he was gravely injured in the attack. The police witnessed how the NPP workers vandalised the premises and exhibited terror mongering.”
Criticising the NPP for peddling fake propaganda using media outlets, Mominin termed the baseless allegations false and fabricated.
“I got to know from news reports that TMC workers attacked NPP. The allegations that are labelled against TMC workers are false, baseless, and fabricated. Thousands of people had witnessed the brutal behaviour of NPP workers,” he said.
He thanked the TMC party workers and supporters for keeping their patience during the crucial hour of tribulation. He asserted that these attacks will not be able to stop the people-centric vision of the Meghalaya TMC.
