18-year-old boxer fights against tuberculosis

Shillong, August 30: An 18-year-old aspiring boxer from Williamnagar in East Garo Hills has been fighting against all odds to win against tuberculosis.

Eleansh G Momin, who started training in boxing at 14, was diagnosed with tuberculosis two years ago. But he had refused to give up the sport. However, deteriorating health and financial distress finally forced him to quit.

Momin was trained under Noyontho Marak. He was selected in the state-level boxing competition. In 2016, he also participated in the Annual State Boxing Championship.

Momin’s mother is a single parent and homemaker and was unable to take care of him. His grandmother has been taking care of him. The family has so far spent over Rs 1.20 lakh and they firmly believe that their efforts would not go in vain. The ray of hope seems to be fading by the day as financial crisis is hindering his treatment.

“My grandson is suffering from tuberculosis and we have no more hope since the doctors have already given up. But with your kind donation and prayers; we can at least try and save his life,” said the grandmother.
