2 Tura wrestlers win gold at first state championship in city

Shillong, May 25: The first Meghalaya State Wrestling Championship was held in the city on Saturday, where two wrestlers from Tura won gold medals.

About 140 wrestlers participated in the freestyle wrestling in 29 categories for men and women. Abdul M. Sangma won the gold in the 72-kg category and Balrang Raka Ch. Momin won the medal in the 86-kg category. This has also earned the two a spot in the National Games 2025.

“We are hopeful that through these events, more students will get involved in the sport. The idea behind the event is to identify talents and train them for the upcoming National Games,” said Isaiah Kharmawphlang, president of the Meghalaya Wrestling Association.
