Five including mother of newborn held with drugs

Shillong, March 10:  Five persons, including a lactating mother, were arrested by the police in connection with supply of drugs on Thursday.

The  East Khasi Hills District Police’s Anti-Narcotic Task Force  along with officers of Lumdiengjri police station reacting on credible inputs regarding supply of drugs in Lower Mawprem area launched multiple operations on March 9.

During first operation, in the afternoon, the ANTF managed to detect and apprehend  one person near KHADC office, Shillong and recovered five boxes of heroin weighing 66.46 gm, 2 mobile phones and one car.

Further, on the same evening based on another credible input regarding supply of drugs at Lower Mawprem area, the team launched an operation at Mawprem area. During the operation, four persons, including two women- one a lactating mother, were apprehended and recovered 20 boxes and 20 vials containing heroin weighing 268.71 gm, 7 mobile phones, cash Rs. 6,87,150, 25 empty vials and 60 syringes.

Police said appropriate legal action has been taken and cases have been registered.
