Catchment areas
The chief minister said a comprehensive amendment of the Meghalaya Protection of Catchment Area Act, 1990 is under consideration so that the Act can be enforced in a proper manner with the cooperation of the landowners and other stakeholders.
In reply to a question, Sangma said that the Meghalaya Protection of Catchment Area Act 1990 could not be implemented effectively as it does not provide any other mechanism for creation of catchment areas except through consent of the land owners which is extremely difficult to secure.
North Shillong VPP MLA Adelbert Nongrum pointed out use of railings at Khyndailad for drying clothes.
Nongrum said the incident of people drying clothes on the railings was reported.
He said the matter is a serious issue and is an eyesore considering that Khyndailad is being visited by tourists coming to the state.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar said that there has been no official complaint received on the matter.
He assured that he would immediately instruct his officers to see that nobody is allowed to hang clothes on the railings, which have been constructed for protection of people.
