KSU demands withdrawal of BSF from Amlarem

Shillong,  April  27: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), West Jaintia Hills unit met the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday for the removal of BSF personnel from Amlarem village, which is away from the international border with Bangladesh.

“We have requested the Deputy Chief Minister to ensure immediate removal of the BSF personnel, who are illegally present at Amlarem market,” KSU West Jaintia Hills District Unit president Laitphar Syngkrem told reporters after a meeting with Tynsong.

The KSU pointed out that the BSF has been harassing local people and seizing their goods.

“We condemn the action of the BSF by conducting illegal checking on local residents of Amlarem and adjoining areas”, the KSU said.

The KSU also alleged that the BSF is allowing illegal Bangladeshis to carry out trade and businesses at Dawki market,

Jowai bypass road

The KSU also demanded the government to immediately repair the deplorable Jowai bypass. Due to this, small vehicles can no longer pass through the road and are forced to enter Jowai town
