384 electors declared not eligible

Shillong, Sept 8: A total of 384 electors have been declared ineligible till date after due scrutiny and hearings during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari said.
“So far, 384 electors have been found ineligible following scrutiny and the prescribed process of hearing,” the CEO said while reviewing the progress of SIR 2026 with district election officials and political parties via video conference”, Tiwari told reporters on Tuesday.
 Tiwari clarified that receipt of a notice does not mean automatic deletion from the Electoral Roll.
“The notice provides an opportunity to the elector to clarify the discrepancy and furnish the prescribed supporting documents,” he said, directing that no name appearing in the Draft Roll should be deleted without due process, inquiry and a fair opportunity of hearing.
The CEO said out of 21,69,243 electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, 6,51,735 notices have been generated, of which 6,20,730 have been delivered, while 31,005 are pending delivery. As many as 2,08,870 hearings have been conducted, representing 32.05% of notices generated.
DTiwari said 2,22,786 electors have been identified under “No Mapping” category and 4,28,949 with mapping discrepancies, totalling 6,51,735 electors identified for scrutiny.
He also said that 12,951 applications have been received after publication of the Draft Roll, including 6,804 Form 6 for inclusion.
1,814 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been appointed by political parties – 736 by NPP, 393 by BJP, 320 by VPP, 186 by INC, 121 by UDP and 58 by AITC.In view of disruption last month in Shillong, the SIR schedule has been extended by 14 days.
The last date for filing Claims & Objections is September 18, last date for disposal of claims/hearings is October 17, and final publication of Electoral Roll will be on October 21, the CEO said.
