Shillong, Oct 16: Only 30 to 40 people from Riat Laban attended the public hearing for the Shillong ropeway project
Speaking to reporters on Friday ( Oct 16), Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism department, RM Kurbah said that the notice for the public hearing was sent to the Dorbar Shnong through the headman.
In reply to a question, the official said it was up to the Dorbar Shnong to deal with the public hearing and not the government
“As normal, like in other projects, we issued notice to the Dorbar Shnong through the headman….beyond that, we can’t say anything as the hearing was attended by the elected representatives ( Dorbar Shnong) of the society
As always, the first step by the government is to seek permission from the Shnong, not the people directly, she added.
Kurbah said that a maximum of 40 people attended the public hearing.
“Of course, we were informed by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) that many were not informed “, she added.
