
The High Court of Meghalaya has registered a PIL on the proposed demolition of the state circuit house known as ‘Bidhan Bhavan’ or ‘Roy Villah’.
The High Court of Meghalaya has registered a PIL on the proposed demolition of the state circuit house known as ‘Bidhan Bhavan’ or ‘Roy Villah’.
“Based on a letter dated 12.11.2025 addressed to the Hon’ble Chief Justice, this PIL has been registered concerning a building known as ‘Bidhan Bhavan’ or ‘Roy Villah’, which is presently a State Circuit House.
The concern expressed is about the proposed demolition of the building, which, according to the letter, is a heritage structure of significant historical value,” the division bench comprising Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice B Bhattacharjee said
During the hearing, the AG, assisted by AH Kharwanlang, Addl Sr GA for the state respondents, is present in Court and submitted that the said letter is also available with him.
He prayed that he may be allowed one week to file affidavit , about the matter illlllll
S Chakrawarty, Senior counsel assisted by ML Nongpiur, counsel, has consented to assist the Court as Amicus Curiae, in the matter.
The bench has also directed that a copy of the letter and other materials available be supplied to ML Nongpiur, counsel, in the course of the day. The matter has been listed for the next hearing on November 27.
