Nanda K Dewan to receive journalism award
Guwahati, Dec 5: Youth leader and journalist Nanda K Dewan will receive Community Development & Global Peace Journalism International Award 2020 on December, 10, 2021 on the sidelines of International Human Rights Day in Kathmandu, Nepal hosted by National Press Club, Nepal in association with America Nepal Press Club Inc.
It is the 7th edition of the international award and is being jointly hosted by the American Nepali Press Club of United States of America and the National Press Club of Nepal. Senior Peace Journalist based in New York US and Editor of Astitwa’ Yam Kumar Sunuwar was awarded its 6th edition. As part of awardee speech of 7th edition, Dewan has been invited to talk on ‘Role of Journalist in Community Developement and Impact of Rolling Reportage’
Dewan’s contribution in community development journalism has been recognised in the past in the region too. He was voted top 10 Gorkhas of Assam’ by ‘Sapariwar’ Nepali language monthly magazine published from Guwahati after being nominated from journalism field. For achieving such a feat at a young age of 22, he was given Honorary Associate Membership of the Gauhati Press Club in 2009. He was awarded ‘National Emerging Journalist 2009’ in Kalimpong, West Bengal and felicitated by Sikkim Press Club in Gangtok in 2010.
Kalimpong Press Club had invited him as resource person in their annual workshop and felicitated with honorary membership for his contribution to community journalism.
Dewan is a Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) graduate with career spanning 15 years. He started his journalism career with UB Photos – Guwahati based news agency as Photojournalist cum Content Editor in 2006 and reported for Assam Times – pioneer online community news portal as it’s City Correspondent and is still associated with it. Since begining of journalism career, he contributed to various national and international news organisations with a focus mainly on community development subjects and international relations. At the advent of online news sites, he regularly contributed for the newsites The Darjeeling Times, Himalyan Beacon, Kalim News, The Gorkha Times, The Sikkim Times. His news articles appeared in Nepali language dailies Himalaya Darpan, Hamro Prajashakti (still associated) and monthly magazine Sapariwar and English monthly magazine Eastern Panorama. He contributed as stinger for newspapers of Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan too.
Dewan has been associated with Gorkha community students and youth organisation and civil society organisations (CSO)s and is currently the National President of Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh – youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) national social organisation of Gorkhas in India.
