Shillong, Aug 1: Five persons, including a lady drug supplier, were arrested by the police.
In a statement issued on Monday, the East Khasi Hills police said that on Sunday, based on source information, the Anti Narcotic Task Force, East Khasi Hills intercepted one Eco Sport ML05 U 1782 at Jingkieng Demthring around 6.15 pm and recovered 40 soap cases weighing 559 gms of heroin from the vehicle driven by Shaniah Kharmawphlang (19).
His accomplice, Daniel Nongrum (20) of Nongrah Nongpdeng was also arrested and his bike was seized.
On further interrogation, the supplier was ascertained as Esther Ramhmangaih (37), who was arrested from her house at Madanriting Thembasuk Block F with Rs 4,42,00. From her premises, two couriers, Robinson Hmar (19) of Bawngkawn Aizawl and Letminlen Doungel (30) of Tuibong, Churachandpur Manipur were arrested and police also seized a Mahendra Bolero and a scooty while cash Rs 2,19,510 was recovered from the Bolero. Six mobile phones have also been seized from the five arrested persons.
A case under the NDPS Act was registered at Rynjah police station.
