BSF seize 85 cattle from border

Shillong, Aug 7: The BSF Meghalaya in the last 24 hours, seized 85 cattle from the bordering area of East Khasi Hills & East Jaintia Hills districts.
The cattle were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific tip-off, the BSF mobile check post at Sonapur, East Jaintia Hills district, intercepted oneĀ truck loaded with 24 cattle near Umkiang area although driver and his accomplices managed to abscond.
Besides, 61 cattle were found in the forest area close to the international boundary of East Khasi Hills district waiting for opportunity for further crossing over to Bangladesh.
The BSF said that in view of upcoming Independence Day, it has enhanced alertness on the border to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities.
