WGH DC urged to look into road construction alignment
Shillong, Nov 10: Nazmul Hashan, President of Garo Hills Youth Organisation has petitioned West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner regarding the alignment of National Highway (NH) which will be constructed from the Dhubri- Phulbari Bridge to ISBT, Tura.
In the letter addressed to the DC, Hashan said the apprehension is that the construction may go through the east side of the existing AMPT road resulting in huge loss to the public property of people in the plains who are residing on the east side of the AMPT road and most of the shops and houses are to be dismantled which are on the east side of the AMPT road.
“If the measurement of the NH is taken along with the AMPT road measuring the equal side for lanes from the Centre of the existing AMPT road of the plain belt region, then the houses and the markets of both sides are equally affected and if the measurement for the NH goes somewhere to the east of the existing AMPT road and somewhere to the west of the existing AMPT road, houses and shops would be badly affected”, the letter said.
According to Hashan, this will leave houses and shops of one side as they are and other side will be completely affected as the houses and shops will be in the NH area, leaving no alternatives for the affected house owners and shop owners to find houses and shops.
“If both the sides- east and west- are measured equally from the Centre of the existing AMPT road, then the land holders might have left some portion of their lands which do not fall on NH and they can construct their houses or shops”, he said.
