Mukroh panel warns of action against Assam forest official

Shillong,Jan 20: The commission of inquiry headed by retired Judge T Vaiphei probing the Mukroh incident has warned of action against an Assam forest official for not responding to the commission’s notice to provide statement on the incident.

The commission had sent notices twice to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest cum Head of Forest, Assam to provide the statement.

The order passed by the commission after a hearing in the city on January 20 said that the statement called for from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest cum Head of Forest, Assam has not been received though he was asked to do so by an order on January 6.

The notice was sent to him by email as well as by speed post.

“Once again, the attention of the PCCF, Assam is drawn to the powers of this commission under section 5 of the commission of inquiry act, 1952 to take coercive measures to enforce its order”, the commission said.

The panel asked to re-issue the notice to him by name along with the copy of the order through his email and by speed post.

” The statement supported by affidavit in accordance with Rule 5 (2) (a) of the commission of inquiry ( Central Rules), 1972 as made applicable to this commission, must reach the office of the commission on or before January 31″, the order said.

The commission has already received the statement of Assam DIG, CR, complying with the notice.

The matter will come up for hearing on January 31.
