Conrad resigns as CM after elected parliamentary party leader, meets Guv to stake claim

Shillong, March 3: NPP leader Conrad Sangma, who was elected as parliamentary party leader of the new alliance supported by the BJP,  met the Governor on Friday.

He submitted his resignation to the governor to pave for the formation of a new government.

Senior MLAs of the party and BJP legislators Sanbor Shullai and AL Hek also accompanied the chief minister to Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the new government.

The NPP got the support of two BJP MLAs support of others are being worked out by the party.

The chief minister did not give any direct reply as to who will be the others who will be supporting the new government.

Besides the two BJP MLAs, independent MLA from Baghmara Karthus Marak also extended support.

After coming out of Raj Bhavan, the chief minister said he will submit the list of MLAs to the governor, who invited him to lead the government.

‘Many of our MLAs are away, they will be available only in the evening”, he said.

To a question on others who will be supporting the government, the chief minister said, “You know them’.
