Concern over tobacco-related deaths in state
Shillong, May 23: As East Khasi Hills tops in tobacco-related cancer cases in the country, experts have called for reduction in use of tobacco products in the state.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Caleb Harris, Surgical Oncologist at NEIGRIHMS said every year, 8,000 tobacco related deaths are reported in Meghalaya.

The state nodal officer for tobacco control programme Dr Lana Lyngdoh Nongbri said the situation is alarming as many children are also addicted to tobacco products.
Ahead of the World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the experts in the field came together on Tuesday to campaign against the use of tobacco especially by the young students.
