Shillong,June 1: A drug peddler identified as Abdul Aziz Barbhuiya (35) hailing from Hailakandi, Assam was arrested by the police on June 1.
Police said information was received that the drug peddler is proceeding from Kalain towards Guwahati in his vehicle (As-24-D-2838) and carrying a consignment of illegal contraband. Accordingly, the ANTF team and staff of Lumshnong PS, East Jaintia Hills set-up a naka at Tongseng near HP petrol pump, NH-06 and the person was detained in his vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle in the presence of independent witnesses, 74 soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder were recovered. Preliminary test of the powder was conducted and gave positive result for heroin. The total net weight is 926.40 gm.
