Shillong, June 14: The state students who have to appear for Common University Entrance Test( CUET) are facing hardships as the examination centres are located outside the state.
Concerned over the matter, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma petitioned Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday to direct the National Testing Agency (NTA) to make alternative arrangements.
The students of Meghalaya were allotted CUET centres outside Meghalaya such as Ranchi, Jharkhand, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kolkata and southern states of India.
This has left the students and their parents in disbelief and dismay and also has caused significant inconvenience and logistical challenges for the students, who were already preparing for the examination under the assumption that the centres would be allocated closer to their home, Conrad said in the letter.
“I am also to inform you that the admit cards were issued only in the morning of 14th June, 2023 to students who will have to appear the CUET on 16th June, 2023, thereby giving a very little time to make the necessary arrangements for travel and accommodation in other States,” Conrad said
He said such arrangements made by the NTA have deprived the students of the state the opportunity to pursue their education in other central universities located in different parts of the country.
Conrad said the government had already requested the NTA to set up the CUET centres in all 12 districts of Meghalaya in institutions which are having adequate infrastructure and testing facilities for CUET examination.
