Shillong, July 20: The state cabinet has decided to increase tax on diesel by 50 paise.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters on Thursday after the cabinet meeting that since there is a difference between Assam and Shillong prices on petrol, the cabinet has decided to increase it by 50 paise.
“We expect to generate Rs 5 to 6 crore from the hike”, Conrad added.
He, however, said that there can be impact on essential commodities due to the decision.
“Cabinet has approved the enhancement of rate of tax on Petrol and Diesel. The price of diesel between Meghalaya & Assam is quite high i.e ₹90.33 for Guwahati & ₹84.10 for Khanapara which is a difference of ₹6.23. Hence, considering the revenue of the state, we have decided to increase the rate by 50 paisa”, Conrad said.
