Shillong, Oct 31: Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) members will leave for Delhi on Wednesday to pursue recognition to Khasi language and implementation of ILP.
The general secretary of HANM, Kyllang Thongni said more than hundreds of its members will be leaving for Delhi to participate in the sit-in demonstration that will he held on November 3 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
HANM said the union government has not shown any green signal to include the Khasi and Garo languages to the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution as adopted by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on September 27, 2018.
The Assembly has also adopted the resolution on December 19, 2019 to implement the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873 to protect the people of Meghalaya from influx, but the union government has kept mum on the issue till date.
The Government of Meghalaya had sent the two resolutions to the union government to include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India and to Implement the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873 in Meghalaya to protect the people of Meghalaya from influx.
