Shillong,, Nov 18: The Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers will stage a protest march to Secretariat on November 27 for the failure by the government to enhance the honorarium to Rs 5,000 from 2,000.
Following the recent peace rally, the decision to intensify the agitation was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of Meghalaya Accredited Social Health Activist Workers’ Union (MASHAWU) held at Mawlai Motsyiar.
“We have decided to take out a protest march and organise an indefinite sit-in-demonstration in front of the secretariat on November 27,” President of the Union Marajune Myrsing said.
Myrsing had asserted during the peace rally that there would be neither retreat nor surrender till the government comes up with assurance on the issue of hike in honorarium raised by the ASHAs.
Health care in over 7,000 villages were affected due to the indefinite strike by the ASHA workers since ten days.
Though the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh claimed that her doors are open for dialogue, she warned them not to come with the expectations which are beyond her capacity.
