Over 1k AK ammunition, grenades, wild life articles seized in Ri Bhoi
Shillong, Dec 8: A person was arrested and huge quantity of ammunition and wild life articles were seized on Thursday night by the police in Ri Bhoi.
According to the police, in the overnight operation carried out by the teams of Pillangkata Out Post and Umiam police station of Ri Bhoi, large quantity of ammunition and wild life articles were siezed from the possession of one person hailing from Mizoram. He was staying in 9th mile Baridua, Ri Bhoi.

1001 nos of AK 47 ammunition
LMG 7.62 ammunition – 7 nos
INSAS 5.56 ammunition – 14 nos
.32 pistol ammunition- 30 nos
Empty case 03 nos
Tear smoke grenade 1 no
Hand grenade 1 No
INSAS empty magazine 1 no
AK 47 empty magazine 03 nos
Lower jaw with teeth of wild boar 1 piece
Deer antlers (Horn) 07 nos
Deer skull 1 no
Stamp seals 34 nos of variety government departments.
The police said the accused was apprehended and necessary action is being taken up under relevant sections of law.
Further investigation is on to establish the network of the accused, the police said, adding the operation by Ri Bhoi Police was based on source information and credible inputs from Military Intelligence Unit of Eastern Command.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media announcing the seizure.
“The @RibhoiPolice through its unwavering resolve and tireless efforts have dealt a decisive blow to the forces of darkness targeting our state. One notorious interstate criminal who is entangled in a web of illegal activities that spanned from trafficking of arms and precious wildlife as well as forgery of official documents is arrested. The seizure includes 1052 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, 2 grenades, 4 magazines, 34 seals of various departments & 9 antlers/skulls of deer and cash”, the CM said.
