Shillong, April 29: Police arrested the main person behind the formation of GNLA-R .
He has been identified as Simon G Momin.
In a statement, the police said subsequent to the arrest of Sengsrang N Marak, Thosengcheba A Sangma, and Chijang A. Sangma on March 15 in connection with Tura PS Case No. 25(02)2024 u/s 120B/121/121A/153A/384/3644/511 IPC r/w section 10/13 UAPA Act; a search operation was launched by West Garo Hills Police to arrest the mastermind behind the formation of GNLA-R, Simon G Momin and on April 25 Simon along with one person Rakban Ch. Momin were arrested from the village Gambil Apal under Dainadubi PS, North Garo Hills.
The seizure includes three mobile phones and two sim cards.
Police said the mastermind behind the formation of GNLA-R Simon was earlier a member of the organization ANLA (A’chik National Liberation Army), and he was also associated with AMEF (Achik Matgrik Elite Force). He was arrested earlier in Arms Act cases in West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills and extortion/abduction case in South Garo Hills.
“We appeal to the people of Meghalaya to report any such information related to extortion/threatening/any illegal activities to nearest police station which will facilitate police in ensuring prompt and quick necessary action accordingly. Identity of the informants will be kept confidential”, the police added.
