Minister to hand over ex-gratia to family of four victims of landslide in Shella

Shillong, May 31: With the recovery of two more bodies on Friday from Nongpriang in Shella , the search team has completed the process of retrieving all the four bodies.

Executive Director, State Disaster Management Authority Matsiewdor War Nongbri said, “Bodies of all the four landslide victims were recovered and  the minister will also be visiting the village tomorrow.”

The incident took place on May 30 early hours when two houses were washed away in rain induced landslide at Nongpriang village under Shella-Bholaganj block.

The deceased victims have been identified as Phisar Nongrum (75), Kynmaw Syngai (70), Benti Riahtam (60) and Lumlang Riahtam (16). The last three are from the same family.

“We are planning to go tomorrow to visit the site at Nongpriang. We will try to find ways and means to support the families and also to handover the cheques of Rs 4 lakh to each of the next of kin of the four victims,” Shylla said.
