Shillong, July 22: The police have warned of action against the drivers who use modified vehicles.
In a statement issued on Monday, the East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said, “There has been a rise in the number of vehicles, both two-wheelers and four wheelers, which are retrofitted with loud exhaust pipes causing noise pollution in the city, especially at unearthly hours causing immense discomfort to the elderly and infirm persons as well as to the young children and others who may require silence” .
Use of tinted glasses
“Moreover, even after appeals made time and again, vehicles are still seen using unauthorised black / tinted films, blinkers / flash lights and sirens on their vehicle(s) flouting the traffic rules and regulations”, the SP said.
The police official said ithe motorists should refrain from the violations in order to ensure road safety and safe environment for the citizens of Shillong city and others visiting the city.
“Violators shall be penalised as per the provision of law”, he added.
One-way violation
The SP also said some motorists are in the habit of violating the ‘one way’ traffic regulation thereby, posing grave threat and endangering the movement of other road users.
Furthermore, with regard to the movement of two-wheelers, it has been observed that most of the two-wheelers overtake from the left side and thus, makes it hazardous for other commuters especially for the pedestrians and passengers deboarding from the vehicles which may lead to fatal accident(s), the SP said.
“The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) requests everyone to follow traffic rules and regulations while on road and uphold driving etiquettes. Violation of the same may entail legal action”, the SP added.
