HC fixes Aug 14 to settle Mawjymbuin cave case

Shillong, Aug 8: High Court of Meghalaya has fixed August 14 to hear further the case related to conducting rituals in Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram.

The court, after hearing the matter, wanted an amicable settlement to the issue between the Dorbar Shnong and the petitioner Yatra, a registered organisation which as been organising pilgrimage to worship Shiva Linga inside the cave from 2011 to 2023.

The court observed that pursuant to the order dated 07-08-2024, the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District and the respondents No. 6, 7 & 8 were present in person.
In the course of the proceedings and on hearing the respondent No. 7 on behalf of the respondents No. 6, 7 &  8, as also the Deputy
Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, it was found necessary that
some time be allowed as prayed by the respondent No. 7 to try and resolve
the issue in question with regard to the grant of the No Objection Certificate for conducting the annual pilgrimage to Krem Mawjymbuin,
Mawsynram,the court said.

“Let this matter be listed on 14th August, 2024 to enable the parties to apprise this Court with regard to their decision. This Court expects that an amicable solution be arrived at before the next date”, the order said.
