Nobel laureate Yunus arrives in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Aug 8 (UNI): Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday afternoon ahead of taking oath as chief advisor to an interim government at Bangabhaban, media reports said.

“If you have faith in me, and trust me, then ensure that there will be no attack anywhere in the country. This is our first responsibility,” he was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

The interim government is scheduled to take the oath of office at 8.30 pm.

On his arrival in Dhaka, Dr Yunus said, “What I would like to stress first is to save the country from chaos. Save the country from violence so we can move forward on the path the students have shown us.”

According to the reports, in a press release from the Yunus Centre, the Nobel laureate urged all students, political party members, and non-political individuals to remain calm and refrain from violence.

He congratulated the brave students, saying they had led the way to make this “our second Victory Day” possible.
