Sanbor Shullai takes up plight of journalists in Assembly
Shillong, Aug 27: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday raised the plight of journalists in Meghalaya during the Question Hour in Assembly as the Journalists’ Welfare Scheme 2009 has only limited facilities.
In reply to questions, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said proposals are with the government regarding pension to retired journalists besides housing facilities.
She also said another proposal is to raise the current Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia to Rs 5 lakh and fromĀ Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh for medical treatment.
The minister said journalists are advised to register for MHIS health cards.
To a supplementary question, Ampareen said Journalists’ Welfare Scheme 2009 provides scope for family welfare of journalists.
The government is also examining the proposal for cashless medical treatment to journalists, she said.
