Shillong,Sept 6: Mystery surrounds the death of a resident of Raid Laban identified as Santosh Das (34) after he fell from a hillock on September 3 night.
The victim, who was unwell, fell after he came out of his house to relieve himself, police said.
Though the police said the victim fell from a height of about 50 meter at Sanbor Shullai bridge, Laban, the brother of the victim said while he was helping Santosh, both fell and rolled down. He said they did not reach that below and Santosh was found near a stream later.
“My brother fell on me after he relieved himself but I could come up whereas he could not as he was unwell . We searched for him below for some time”, he said.
Later, only a rescue team retrieved Santosh but he was declared brought dead at Civil Hospital Shillong.
The mother of the victim said her son has been suffering from brain tumour and was helpless to do the daily needs alone.
“He was at home and went out to relieve himself around 8.45 pm. As he was not well due to brain-related issues and epilepsy, I asked my younger son to help him and later this mishap happened”, the mother said.
During a visit to the area, it was found that there was no railing near the toilet and the place was exposed to accidents and risky to children and sick people.
After the incident, the house owner put up a wooden railing (in picture). However, there are other adjacent slopes which require railings to prevent accidents.
