Mobile bookstore & library reaches city outskirts
Shillong, Oct 8: The National Book Trust is running a mobile book store and library on the outskirts of the city.
Governor CH Vijayashankar inaugurated the mobile store and library on October 2. Students and adults can either buy books from the mobile stall or sit there and read.
“This initiative is a part of the Shillong Book Fair. The aim is to connect with book lovers in rural areas,” said a source associated with the book fair. So far, the vehicle has travelled to the periphery of the city centre and not to remote areas.
The mobile store and library, which will be functional till October 13, has already travelled to Army Public School, Happy Valley, KBS Nehu and Laitkor and NIFT. The van has more than 200 titles.
The 2nd edition of the Shillong Book Fair got better The fourth day with an exhilarating session at the children’s corner. The musical storytelling event by Vasudha Ahuja, accompanied by guitarist Kunal Shandilya, became an instant hit among the 500-plus students from 14 schools. All the children in the auditorium sang with the storyteller.
