Shillong, Oct 13: The short circuit in the exhaust machine resulted in minor fire incident at the Grove restaurant in OB Shopping Mall, Khyndailad on Sunday morning.
Videos taken by the passers-by revealed huge column of smoke emanating from the building giving an impression of a major fire.
However, the fire was doused by the fire service personnel on time.
According to the owner, the incident occurred around 6.20 am but dousing of fire did not take much time.
“The exhaust was upstairs..due to short circuit, the chimney of the restaurant was damaged , there was no major fire, the fire tenders also arrived on time”, the owner said, adding that the building had adopted fire safety measures.
The home department had on September 26 ordered that all buildings within Shillong city and its adjoining areas that are being used as hotels, lodges, homestays, resorts as well as business buildings should obtain compulsory NOC from the fire service organisation.
