‘Schools set up by individuals don’t deserve govt support’

Shillong, May 25: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has said the state government has extended financial support to individual freelancer schools from the public exchequer due to confusion.
“Let us be very clear, government of the day must be a little confused and start extending benefits to schools which are established by private freelancer adventures in the social sector, in the education sector”, Sangma told reporters.
“So, therefore any school which has received the grant now they are categorizing as adhoc schools but all the schools which have been established by the communities coming together those are the schools which are eligible to receive the support from the public exchequer not individual freelancer schools,” he said.
He said there is total lack of clarity on the part of the government.
“Because even from the reply of the Chief Minister I could make it out because he was somehow mixing up with these private schools with adhoc schools by thinking that adhoc schools are private schools.”
“Well, any school which has been extended any aid from the public exchequer they are usually those schools which have been established by the community, not by individuals. We don’t provide any extension of financial support to these schools which are established by individuals in business format because community had always been ahead of government,” he added.
