
Shillong, May 30: Two persons lost their lives due to land slide and drowning following incessant rain on Friday.
The victims have been identified as Klosliya Kharkongor (50) from Lumkyntung Village, under Laitkroh-Khatarshnong Block and Samborlang Tariang (35) from Mawbynna, Pomlakrai.Three persons were injured.
A statement issued by commissioner and secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Sanjay Goyal said necessary directions have been issued to the DCs to release the ex-gratia amount of Rs.4 akh each to the next of Kin of the deceased.
Inview of the ongoing adverse weather conditions of squally wind and heavy rainfall in the state, a review meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma through video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners on Friday.
Based on the review meeting, the
districts reported incidents of landslides, flooding, water logging, trees falling,
damage to infrastructure and disruption to utility lines. The IMD Regional ofice
reported that the current situation is likely to continue till May 31.
The education department has asked the school authorities to decide closure of schools depending on the situation.
