NIFT Shillong holds graduation show

Shillong, June 6: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong organised graduation show in the city on June 5.
The event held at Courtyard by Marriott brought together industry leaders, government dignitaries, academicians, and design enthusiasts to celebrate the creative achievements of the graduating batch 2025.
The show featured curated exhibitions, AV presentations, and a high-energy fashion runway that brought to life the distinctive voices and visions of students from across departments Fashion Communication (FC), Textile Design (TD), Fashion Design (FD), Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories Design (F&LA), and Master of Fashion Management.
Shankar Kumar Jha, Director, NIFT Shillong, in his welcome speech said, “Today, we are witnessing more than a show, we are witnessing a movement. Our students are bold, articulate, and deeply rooted in values. The future of fashion, design, and communication is in brilliant hands. We are confident they will contribute significantly to the creative economy of India and beyond.”
He congratulated the 141 graduating students of NIFT, Shillong. Among them are 27 from FC, 36 from FD, 26 AD, 22 TD and 30 FMS.
The Bottom Line, an audio visual presentation by the Fashion Management Studies department, set the tone for the event. The chief guest, Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, North Eastern Council (NEC), praised the students’ clarity of vision and professional acumen, stating ‘Fashion is one profession that touches everyone even after death. Modernity is not compromising culture. Be responsible and ensure to take cautious steps while promoting fashion. Take inspiration from the almighty, fulfil your dreams, be grateful to your faculties who have groomed you. Be flexible, adapt to change and be a life long learner’. The guest of honour, Som Kamei, Planning Advisor, NEC, congratulated the postgraduates and added that “life’s most important lesson is to stay grounded”
The second half of the afternoon featured stunning AV shows from various design departments; Communique, Fashionova, Design Showcase, and Tantu each echoing personal narratives, indigenous craft, and global relevance.
The chief guest, Prof. Indrajit Dube, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Shillong, was deeply moved by the creative intensity, noting “Concern of the environment in fast fashion, ideas on sustainable fashion need to be strongly advocated, maintaining originality and creativity in the world of Al, protect your intellectual property. Make a difference and be the change”
The final fashion show left the audiences in awe. Featured collections reflected not only technical finesse but cultural consciousness.
The chief guest of the fashion show, Prof. Mousumi Guha Banerjee, Director, The English and Foreign Languages University, Regional Campus Shillong, applauded the students’ originality, “Every garment was a declaration of heritage, of resistance, of dreams. The designs were poetic, political, and powerful.”
Among them were Sandeep Kumar Das, Sales Manager, Usha, Indian Bank, Star Cement who offered encouragement and support for young creators entering the market.
