Condemnation against police & people for handling victim of violence

Shillong, July 19: After videos and photos of a victim of violence being carried by the police without completely covering the body emerged, condemnation has poured in.

Police swung into action, asking people not to share the content online, but the police statement did not mention any action against its personnel for being insensitive while handling the body.

An estranged lover axed to death the 19-year-old girl in East Garo Hills, on July 18.

Following this, carrying of body in full public view, that too without fully covering it, has irked activists from Garo Hills.

They called for action against the police, besides those who circulated the visuals.

Activist Jaynie Sangma condemned both the police and the people for being insensitive..

Earlier, a statement by the East Garo Hills SP Stephen A. Rynjah, said it was observed that some individuals/social media users, etc., are uploading video clips and photographs on various social media platforms of the victim girl who was murdered on July 18 in Samgong, Williamnagar.

“Such thoughtless stunts would seriously affect the family members of the victim and society as a whole, which indicates that there is no respect at all for the poor victim and her family. In this regard, it is hereby urged to all such individuals, etc., not to upload such posts on any social media platforms, WhatsApp status, etc and to take down all such posts immediately which have been uploaded. Failing to comply with this advisory shall be viewed very seriously by the office of the undersigned and shall attract serious legal implications on such individuals, groups, etc”, the SP said.
