Shillong, Aug 21: A child and occupant of a car were killed after a truck fell on the road in West Jaintia Hills on Thursday.
According to the police, around 11:30 am, the accident occurred at Mukhla involving one truck (Regn. No. UP76T 1960) and one Maruti Alto (Regn. No. ML04E 0731). The truck toppled over the Maruti Alto.
During the incident, the truck also hit a female pedestrian, Sooki Sari from Ladmukhla, who was carrying her child on her back.
The child, Hawasan Sari (2), was immediately rushed to Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai, where he was declared brought dead.
After completion of the inquest and post-mortem examination at Civil Hospital, Jowai, the body of Sari was handed over to the relatives.
The driver of the Maruti Alto, Convince Susngi, a resident of Nangbah Village, was also taken to Jowai Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the attending Medical Officer. The inquest and post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday.
