Traditional heads to meet on Sept 27

Shillong, Sept 22: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri u Hynñiewtrep will convene the third general Dorbar at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw Pdeng, on September 27  by inviting all the heads of clans from across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills to join hands to deliberate on vital issues concerning the preservation of the matrilineal system inherited from the mother.

The president of the Synjuk, Bah R. L. Kharpran, outlined the objectives of the Synjuk, emphasising the need to create public awareness about the importance of safeguarding indigenous customs and traditions. He also stated that the Khasi chieftains — the Syiem and Lyngdoh of all the Hima, as well as the Dolloi of the Elaka in Jaintia Hills — have been invited to share their reflections on the theme.

Raphael Warjri spoke on the foundations of clan lineage in Khasi society and highlighted the profound wisdom of the ancestors in establishing kinship through the mother, the bearer and nurturer of humanity.

Other clan leaders and executive members, including P. Syiem, vice president, Will Shylla, and J. L. Khongshei, senior members of the mother institution, also echoed the same voice in the collective struggle to resist attempts that seek to alter and weaken the roots, and to oppose practices that disregard ancestral values.
