Govt launches Anti-Terror Squad

Shillong, Sept 29: The state government on Monday launched the Anti-Terror Squad( ATS) to mainly tackle the anti-national terror network.

In his welcome address during the conference of SPs and Commandants of the Meghalaya Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID) Aditya Goenka said that the ATS will work as a shield to protect Meghalaya from the nefarious designs of anti-national forces, ensuring that the citizens live in peace and harmony.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also inaugurated the office of the ATS.

The training of the 50-member ATS in line with the National Security Guard was carried out outside the state.

The induction of the force is according to the direction of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ATS has become the elite unit to tackle terror activities in the state above the Special Operations Team (SOT), Special Force-10 (SF-10) and Special Weapons And Tactics unit (SWAT)
