Extortion motive of self styled GNLA(R): Police

Shillong, Nov 3: Police believe that extortion is the main motive of the criminals who claimed to be GNLA Regroup (R).
According to the police, on October 28, an FIR was received at Nonghyllam PS, where the victim stated that he had received an extortion note from the Garo National Liberation Army Regroup (GNLA-R), and subsequently, he received threatening calls from an unknown number.
In this regard, a case was registered at Nonghyllam PS vide Case no.15(10)25 U/S 308(2)/351(4)/3(5)/113(3)(5) BNS.
Based on this information and working on other credible intelligence inputs, the staff of Ranikor circle and special cell Mawkyrwat Police were able to apprehend one main suspect, Mann R. Marak (25), a resident of Upper Rajapara South West Khasi Hills. Further, based on his examination and confession, four more suspects ( including one minor) were identified and arrested.

Marson R. Marak (18) and Babulin D. Sangma (27), both residents of Upper Rajapara, South West Khasi Hills, and Tartus N. Marak (20) resident of Mulapat, also from South West Khasi Hills
Further Investigation is ongoing to ascertain their membership with GNLA-R and the role of any other GNLA-R members in this offence, the police said
