Mohan Bhagwat to visit Manipur on November 20
Imphal, Nov 19 (NNN): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will arrive in Imphal on November 20 for a three-day visit to Manipur, his first trip to the state since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023.
Officials from the RSS state media cell confirmed that the visit is part of the organisation’s 100th-year celebrations, dismissing speculation linking it to Manipur’s ongoing political tensions.
“The visit has nothing to do with politics. It is purely focused on the Sangh’s activities aimed at character-building and national unity,” an RSS media cell representative said.
According to the RSS, Bhagwat’s engagements will include interactions with social leaders, intellectuals and youth representatives. On the first day, he will remain at Imphal International Airport till the afternoon, meeting local stakeholders from various walks of life.
The RSS will also strengthen its ongoing ‘Panch Paribartan’ (Five Transformations) campaign, through which pracharaks plan to distribute literature highlighting the organisation’s ideology and mission to households across the state, irrespective of religion or community.
“RSS is often misunderstood as a religion-based organisation. Our true goal is to unite India as one nation,” the spokesperson explained.
On Friday, Bhagwat is expected to interact with leaders of student organisations, tribal representatives, and social groups at the Sangh’s state office.
Bhagwat last visited Manipur in 2022, a year before the current unrest began.
